This week was better than the last as I was more prepared for what to expect. However, there were still some surprises. As I came into the shelter I checked in on all the dogs as usual. As I went around the corner and entered the room where the pregnant dog was, there was a girl on the ground taking care of her. As I got closer I noticed the dog was giving birth in the shelter. This was the first time I had seen puppies that young and it was really cool to see her taking care of them.
As well as seeing the pregnant dog give birth I went out and got water for the employees and dog treats for the shelter. We are not allowed to drink tap water so we need to use bottled which is why that is helpful. I also collected old towels from around my house that I could donate since the shelter is always in need of new towels. This helped me complete the goal of helping the shelter and becoming closer to the workers and dogs there.
Regardless of how hard it is working there, I love it because of all the puppies that I get to see every day. I benefited mentally from helping send all these dogs to good homes which makes me happy. I am glad that I choose to work here for my senior project because this is something that benefits me as well as the community that I live in.
Today since the shelter was closed I copied the link from the Great Dog Rescue New England website and put it on my story. Although I don’t expect people my age to adopt a dog it will bring awareness to the foundation. If they tell their parents, word of mouth is the best way for a business to grow. There is also the possibility that one of the people who saw my story convinces their parents to let them get a dog which will help me achieve my goal of getting all of the dogs adopted. I hope that at least some of the people will donate and help spread the word.
